I tested my replacement dock this morning with no issues. I actually love this thing when it is working properly. It makes the whole "iPhone in the car" experience so much cleaner. I hop in the car, pop the iPhone into the mount, and it's ready for both music and nav. I also like how the TomTom app pauses the music during its voice instructions. Some people had complained about it being too abrupt, but it doesn't bother me at all. To be honest, I don't talk on the phone very much while driving, so I've only had one phone call using the bluetooth. That call was fine, but I don't have enough experience with it for a proper review.

My thought exactly. They would also avoid pissing off 11 million Verizon iPhone customers.

Hadn't thought of that. Also a good point.

Having said all this, Apple often points out that they don't worry about their competition, they just do their own thing and let the market sort it out.

But the decision as to when you release the LTE iPhone will be one of the bigger ones they make in the next few years. Too soon, not enough infrastructure/buyers; too late, you may lose ground to rivals.

The one thing you can say about Steve Jobs, however, is that he has a very good sense of timing. He generally seems to know when the technology is ready to meet the expectations of consumers. I'm guessing he'll make the right call here again.

Actually, they are merging, and that's because of the huge debt that Porsche got due to trying to take over Volkswagen. (BTW, the current CEO of Porsche AG is from Volkswagen, that's not generally how you do it after you've taken over another company, more like what happens when you've lost.)

    wanna re-check that sunshine..?

    Yes,

Android takes over greater share of the market, while Apple retains the bulk of the revenues / profits.

Just as Apple retains a small slice of the PC market while selling over 60% of $1,000+ computers, they will maintain superior revenues/profits no matter how "small" their share of the telecom market turns out to be.

Ideal, as Apple stock prices might temporarily drop in price while their EPS continues to sky-rocket.

I think this will be and sooner than we might expect. Possibly announced in Jan and available alongside Leopard.

I can feel it in my water!

If the price is right it might not leave a place in the range for a Mac mini!

It installs various components into your system, so no, not until Apple modifies their guidelines.

Seeing how many things it does install and the size of the download, I wouldn't install this on any computer. Looks like FUDware to me.

Yes, it took me a while to work out what FUD means, but i think i have that now, and yes, that's probably exactly right, FUDware.

Depending on how you solve it, your answer is either 288 or 2.

Nothing is missing in the equation - no math symbol is missing between 2 and (9+3), so solve it as is.

    Now, cast your vote! :)

Wow, I want one! This will be my next PC desktop, definitely. Now it's a question of timing.

I have a 15" MacBook Pro, and my PC desktop is a 3.6 GHz Pentium D Extreme (two cores each with Hyperthreading, looks like 4 cores) that doesn't really need to be replaced yet. I want my first desktop Mac, but I'm trying to work down my debt and then save for a sports car, so I have to make some sacrifices...

The Mac Pro will have to wait (as long as I can resist the temptation). Besides, by that time something better will inevitably come along. But I have to give Apple applause. I like the SATA drive cages. And finally nVidia support for X86 (I wonder if the MacVidia project is now dead). 3 GHz dual Woodcrest is very, very tempting :) Maybe I can get my job to buy one...

I mean a car from 20 years ago runs fine if you haven't driven any other car. The internet from 10 years ago would be fine if you had never experienced todays broadband. Hell life as a virgin would be cool if you didn't know what sex was.

When you say your phone is far from unusable, its like a virgin saying life without sex is awesome.

Well Cydia is like being a virgin then having sex with a whore then getting STDs that constantly slow down your OS. It might be good in the short term, but you'll have to work hard to keep the swelling down with various lotions and creams. But unlike STDs, you can revert to a clean version of the OS anytime you want. :P

This story broke 5 minutes ago and I'm already over it... Who cares if Apple wants to use something they think is new and revolutionary? Your opinion isn't going to stop them. While you're over here thinking "I can't do bootcamp with ARM" Apple is thinking "Bootcamp will be obsolite when we get done here" :apple:

    LAME

$2,499 standard price of Mac Pro ($2,299 for Education)

$2,124 is the lowest you can configure the Mac Pro ($1,962 for Education)

To get it that low, you have to drop the processors from 2.66GHz to 2GHz and and the hard drive from 250GB to 160GB

Airport Extreme & Bluetooth 2.0 still not standard

Weak graphics card standard (GeForce 7300, ugh)

    and as a sidenote:

MacBook Pro & MacBook processors untouched

     iMac untouched

iPod product line grows more stale by the day

It was WWDC not MacWorld you know?

If you remember the name of the economist, please let me know. There are a lot of differences in perspective I have, I can tell just from your brief description, but I would like to learn the finer details of the theory.

Was it an economist or someone who actually understands economics? :D :p

It was someone who specializes in economics and tax theory. I'll try to remember but until then, the historical record is more than enough to discount the idea that lowering taxes produces net positives for the economy. America experienced its highest growth years when the top tax rate was over 90% and after taxes had been raised in the 90s. Conversely we've seen a decline in our economic fortunes after 10 years of lower and lower tax rates.

Trickle down just doesn't work. Not for the economy as a whole, not for spurring investment or R&D.

    Lord, lol! :D

Feel sorry for you, bud. XD

One more Canadianism.... The Globe and Mail today was reporting on the Bin Laden raid. Apparently his balcony had a wall 2.2 metres high, just enough to conceal a man 6 ft 4 inch. You can't make this stuff up. Most Canadians just make the conversion and move on.:D

I'm really tired of the common 'wisdom' that looks at current phone-only numbers (dominated by Android 2-fers) and declare the inevitable, eternal dominance of Android, particularly in light of articles like this...
    http://www.comscore.com/Press_Events/Press_Releases/2011/4/Apple_iOS_Platform_Outreaches_Android_by_59_Percent_in_U.S

That's 59% iOS over Android when you count the whole platform. (That's 59% MORE, not 59 apple, 41% android).
That's a single iOS ecosystem that includes THE platform of the future (the only 'finished' tablet currently available), compared to an Android environment that's fragmented even in phones, and completely disjointed with its beta (of course) tablet platform (fresh out of the oven, no muss, no testing.)

Just as the media pumps up the underdog in a political race to sell more ad minutes (no one wants a boring horse race), Apple MUST be taken down a notch if there are going to be page hits.

My money is where it counts... on AAPL.

I hope they call it the iPhone 4S or something like that instead of iPhone 5

May your "hopes"be fulfilled and then some:-)

As long as it does what I want it to do they can call it anything they want.

Hilarious that companies are copying Apple rumors now.

Arn, we need an article that Apple is developing a space ship!

I could take this or leave it at this stage.

Would rather have upgradeable hard drive and even upgradeable gpu instead of twice resolution.

Would rather have anti-glare option too.

But if this means some sort of resolution independence then I'm all for it now.

Every year we get people saying we are and we are not getting new hardware updates.

Like an arrow shot in the air, the target is always a hit and miss.
