Kanye West's 'Monster' video

Kanye West is so famous he can release a video over the holidays while bloggers are home explaining what "blogging" is to their parents and still make a huge splash. He doesn't need our stinking press! And with a video as controversial as "Monster" it's not hard to understand why.
Well, now that we're back in the saddle, let's go over what you need to know about Kanye's third video from his My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album.
[Note: The version of "Monster" making the rounds is allegedly a leak and unfinished, but, like pretty much everything associated with Kanye, it's still worth talking about.]
1. Somebody's Been Watching Japanese and Korean Horror Movies: As rap blogger and radio personality Miss Info points out, "Monster" betrays the obvious influence of new school horror filmmakers like Takashi Miike and Chan-wook Park. The video features an array of chilling imagery made all the more disturbing by the distant and clinical way in which it is shot. What disturbing imagery you ask?
2. Let's Hear It For The Dead Girls (!?!?!?): Never one to shy away from controversy and often one to actively go out and seek it, Kanye West certainly stirred up some stuff with this one. "Monster" features, well, a lot of dead girls. Or rather, impeccably dressed, done up models who appear to be dead. Some people are outraged by this possibly misogynistic imagery, some think there's a deeper meaning to it all. For a good summary of the arguments, we defer to this post on Jezebel.
