More people buy smartphones. So Apple could sell more iPhones and have a lower market share.
Looks like they predict a 20% year on year growth for smartphones, which is quite high!
Oh, okay, got it. Thanks! For some reason I thought they were talking about growth rate in market share and not in total sales.

Well, well, so if they do movies then can I please have a higher bitrate on my iTunes songs? I mean talkng about bandwith, songs are nothing in comparison to movies.
So again, please a higher bitrate on songs.

I already did that (explain myself) and you said I was ignorant for doing so - didn't leave me many options, really. :)
mmmmmmmmmmm i just went thru the whole thread and you most certainly have not explained any of your statements, other than saying aperture needed new towers to run properly.
and i want to be clear that i am not neccesarily disagreeing with you, i just want to know why you seem so decisive in your statements with no explantion to them. if you are so sure, i want to know why so i can either agree with you and stop waiting for this ^%$$%#$@#!ing MBP that never seems to get here, or i can disagree and wait until the 24th.
if you are not willing to explain yourself then you are just trolling

I don't care what it is, just give us something new to talk about. Mac Pro really nice machine but we saw it coming months in advance. Maybe not he exact spec but yeah we all knew it was coming. Same with Merom, Conroe etc... Give us something new, really new. All we have had for what seems like an age is Intel switch this Intel switch that. I don't care what processor they use as long as they are faster than they were before and it's still a Mac. I want nay, need a new product - something so I know that Apple are still innovating. Switching to Intel, no innovation there just good sense.

it has a trademark. also see my previous post, and the linked tweet - apple frequently rejects apps for containing representations of iPhones (including hand drawn images that are not copyright by Apple). That's the point.
Ah, sorry. I misunderstood.
You do have to realize though, they can't haul you over to court for drawing an iPhone. All they can do is not allow your application in the App Store.
Which is a bummer, of course. Hopefully, with enough developers quitting because of the unfair limitations, Apple will realize something, and will bring light to the issue.

Yes, murder them all. Just tonight as I was driving by a McDonalds, three corporate execs ran out, caught me at a red light, and forced a Big Mac down my throat. Thank god I didn't drive by the Krystal's, too - those soggy little gut bombers would have put a hurting on me.
I wasn't being sarcastic. I was making his post(s) seem even more ridiculous than they come off as being, considering I don't think anyone in the history of time has ever been forced to eat at burger joints morning, noon, and night.
He wasn't quoting your post when I replied to him, it was gkarris' post.

The Economy is IMPROVING!

Keep listening to corporate run media which lies and doesn't tell the whole story.. my friend, unemployment and the economy aren't getting any better.. in fact, very soon it will collapse.. as inflation starts to settle in.. and if you wanna know the truth, look at BBC and other non-corporate run media for the truth. I know in my home state its like 7.9 percent and most of the jobs are health care and IT - no industrial, no customer service, nothing else.
See the roll eyes after his post, I think he was being sarcastic.

I still don't get why there is still no mention of built-in 3G support. For a device as mobile as the MBA, it's beyond me why it's still missing.
The clunky UMTS USB sticks are difficult to handle on the go, particulary on Rev C and earlier they usually don't even fit without an USB extension cable. :-(
But maybe I'm missing something here :-)

So, here is an interesting argument, as app is short for Applications, and Applications are a strict subset of programs, doesn't the App Store technically sell Programs, not Apps? Thus, the term is no generic at all. "Program Store" would the generic term. It's the same as a club called "Liqueur Store" (which is TMed.)
Interesting indeed. But i would argue that app, application and program are all equally interchangeable.
A club can call itself "Liqueur Store" all it wants. It is not a store that sells liqueur. It's a club that sells liqueur.

Well I think most people are like me, they want their money to go as far as it can go. Right now $2000 will get you a decent 20" 32bit processor iMac. A few weeks from now (or hours! who knows! excitement!) it will get you a decent 20" 64bit processor iMac. I got my iBook about a week before they announced a speed bump (did not know enough about Mac culture to know to wait) and it pissed me off. Not gonna happen to me again!
Hey I said I too have been waiting - since June - to replace my 6 1/2 year old G4. Don't even have iWeb or Tiger. At this point, I almost want to wait to get Leopard pre-installed on a Santa Rosa motherboard. It's a vicious circle. So sue me for being a little bored while I wait for revisions. And speaking of, can we stop the should I buy now or wait threads. Find one and read it.

Shipping date on the 1.83Ghz White MB is 5-7 days. On the rest of the MBs it's 3-5.
All other comps are 24hr, apart from the iMacs which are 1-2.
Has it been like this for a while already? Is this because of shortages, or is it a sign?
It has been stated in a news report (not a rumor) that the reason macbooks are shipping late is because apple is having difficulty maintaining demand during the busy back-to-school/college/uni season.

I still don't understand why nobody has managed to make a viable alternative to Microsoft Office, esp. Microsoft Excel. Apple's iWork is fine, but clearly not enough and of course there is no Windows version. Google is too obsessed with the cloud and ad thing and didn't make Google Docs a local app for Windows / Mac / Smartphones with Dropbox like cloud capabilities. :(
So Microsoft can continue to be fed with its Windows / Office monopolies for the foreseeable future.
because you don't take down an established company going head to head with one of their core products. your product will have to be a lot better to compete, and it will be too expensive.
if you want to win you need to wait for the tech cycle to change and take advantage of it. like apple did with the PC tech cycle giving way to smaller more mobile devices. give it a few years and they may start to replace PC's, but most likely will just live in unison
MS Office has so much features that no one person uses all of them, but the entire user base uses all the features.

To everyone condemning the guard for DOING HIS JOB, make sure you read the article, and know the facts before doing so. If someone is shooting at me, you better bet that I'll be shooting to kill. Kudos to him; hopefully he isn't too mentally shaken up to continue living a normal life.

Speaking of returns, is there a possibility of buying the machine and if they don't auto-upgrade me to the new one, return it and buy a new one?
Only if you buy the machine but don't open the box (unless you're willing to pay a 10% restocking fee). And that's only if you get the standard config, no custom BTO. Plus if you order it, you'll pay shipping back to them.
this goes to show how behind apple is in updating.
clearly they arent ready to adapt to an intel platform. the cant even make simple processor adjustments on time!
all the major companies have made this transition.
Actually NONE of the pc companies have made the transition. They haven't shipped a single machine with the new chips, just made announcements of shipments days or weeks away (and that was just earlier today...even if apple was behind, they'd only be hours behind, not even a full day). Right now apple is only behind in press releases, which has nothing to do with being ready to adapt to an intel platform. Now ranting about PC companies that haven't shipped the new machines yet...THAT is ridiculous.

Really? Honestly, this is the most uninteresting Apple product since the Performa series in my opinion. Yawn. Not compelling. The SJ RDF will probably help my opinion, but still. My phone works. Thats all I need. (gah, am I getting old?!?!)

Pull them... As trauma surgeon I see the tragedies caused by drunk drivers EVERY Day. Whoever is on agreement to provide means to avoid check points is invited to my local trauma center to see the victims and their families. If we can save one life, one innocent student or parent, even someone who made the mistake of drinking and driving... I would consider this worth.
Besides, the cost of taking care of those who do not die, but spend weeks months or years in the hospital due to a drinking related accident is enormous.
Speed radars are another big issue. In my state, its ok to refuse a helmet while driving a donor-cycle, as we call them, yesterday alone, we lost one kid who is waiting for transplant procurement and half a dozen were admitted with severe injuries most of them traumatic brain injuries while driving motorcycles.
And what if the apps encourage people to not drink and and drive? You're basing this on nothing. No facts whatsoever on whether or not this will promote or make drunk driving easier. Please don't be my surgeon if you're not into facts.

Apple did this same thing before.Streaming it to London..If I recall it was the Front Row type invitation broadcast from a theatre..
Anybody remember that ?
Yeh it was the 5generation launch, they streamed it to the BBC centre i think, Sky News and BBC had the ipod as news article that night.

Hey, they could build a little hub with a cord that plugs into the TB port and provide a few USB 1,2,3 ports, maybe a firewire port, plus a glowing Apple logo on top and call it an iHub.
I bet the only TB thingie Apple will build is 1Gbit Ethernet adapter for MBA
lowly iHubs will be served by Griffins and Belkins of the world though ...

Disney CEO Rob Iger today announced that Disney has sold over 125,000 movies (http://yahoo.reuters.com/news/articlehybrid.aspx?storyID=urn:newsml:reuters.com:20060919:MTFH56918_2006-09-19_16-45-09_N19399790&type=comktNews&rpc=44) through the iTunes Movie store in the past week alone, totaling $1 million in revenue. In addition, Iger said the company expects over $50 million in revenue over the first year of the program.
During last week's Showtime event, the long-rumored "iTunes Movie Store" debuted (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/09/20060912154141.shtml) (now termed "iTunes Store") with 75 films from Disney-owned subsidaries. A successful launch may increase pressure on other studios still holding out on Apple's buy-to-own terms.

Yea, I know what you mean. Apple needs to get on the ball with that already. They have been shipping dual core machines for a while yet OS X cant truly take advantage of it. Since intel will be using more cores as time goes by it only makes sense for OS X and it's apps to be able to harness the full power of all the cores/processors. I really really hope thats what they have planned for Leopard. Maybe its one of the " Super Secret Features" ???
I think that Apple is still working on a gamer machine. I can only assume tat it will be Mac Pro based or a new enclosure. They currently do not support SLI (need support), are using buffered memory (slow), and needs to be user upgradable. I think it is coming but not untl some time next year.
Open GL suporting multiple cores and multiple GPU power agregation is likely to be the ticket so insane performance that blows the rest. But I think it will wait until Leopard to be released. I am sure the next revision 10.4.8 will take us part of the way, but multi cpu, multi-package, multicores are comming. In Jan we should see 2 Quad cores in the Mac Pro and an even better dual Quad in summer. Only Leopard will be able to unleash the power.

I have never been more happy to be proven wrong. But now: Steve has been lying to us about the capabilities of this great iPod 5G for nearly a year now, just so we wouldn't anticipate the iTunes Movie Store.
Lying? Come on. It already supported 640 in mpeg4, he never said it couldn't support other resolutions in the future with a firmware/software update. Did he ever say, "The hardware makes it impossible to ever support 640 with h.264"? No.
